Role Purpose
As a Locomotive Driver, you will play a pivotal role in safely manoeuvring trains within the Sasol Secunda operation—shunting, hauling, loading, and offloading freight to ensure seamless operational flow across various business units.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Development
- Complete site orientation and structured training per the training schedule.
- Undergo theoretical instruction at the accredited training academy.
- Conduct practical training through supervised shifts with experienced drivers.
Operational Duties
- Perform shunting and hauling within Sasol Secunda boundaries.
- Operate within TFR/Sasol exchange yards.
- Drive locomotives efficiently, adhering to schedules and safety protocols to ensure timely delivery of freight.
- Handle various administrative tasks related to train operations.
Safety & Communication
- Maintain the highest levels of train safety and ensure compliance with working rules.
- Supervise Rail Operators and give clear operational instructions.
- Communicate effectively under high-pressure conditions, including proficient radio usage.
- Collaborate with Rail Controllers and personnel to resolve abnormal operating conditions.
Load Handling
- Move loads ranging from 40 wagons (2000T) to 71 wagons (3600T).
- Safely transport containers and hazardous materials.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Matric / Grade 12
Experience
- 2+ years relevant working experience.
Certification
- Competency Certificate for Locomotive Drivers.
