The City of Cape Town is inviting suitably qualified unemployed youth to apply for an 18-month traffic enforcement training programme. This opportunity is ideal for those who are passionate about public service and law enforcement.

The Minimum Requirements.

To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet the following ccriteria:Career advice services


Must have a Grade 12 (Matric) qualification; certified documentary proof is required and must be a permanent resident within the jurisdiction of Cape Town; documentary proof must be provided. Must be fluent in English and at least one official language of South Africa.

They must be currently unemployed. EPWP students and faculty are also eligible to apply. You must be between the ages of 18 and 34 and be fully medically and physically prepared to undergo rigorous physical training.

Before taking a fitness test, you should be fully aware of your health and physical capabilities. You must be able to work well within a team, handle stressful situations, and have no criminal history. Must have a valid driver's license (minimum code B, manual transmission).

Must be able to complete the Certificate of Continuing Education and Training in Traffic Enforcement and the SP4/2012 Law Enforcement Development Program and must not have visible tattoos while wearing any duty uniform.

Physical fitness assessment (required)

All shortlisted candidates will be required to pass the following mandatory physical fitness tests. These evaluations are made on an exceptional basis. If a test fails, the candidate will not be able to proceed to the next test. 2.4 km run

• Men: finish in 11 minutes.

• Women: finish in 13 minutes.

Push-ups (1 minute)

• 30 push-ups in 60 seconds (men and women)

Squats (1 minute)

• 30 squats in 60 seconds (men and women)

Dead weight transfer (100 m)

• Carry 2 weights of 25 kg (one in each hand).

Tire dragging (20 m)

• Drag the tire 20 meters (for men and women)

Shuttle traveling 20 meters

• 10 shuttle races in 60 seconds (men and women)

Climb the wall

• Cross a 2.1 meter high wall (for men and women)

Motorcycle offset test

• Must meet motorcycle range requirements.

Comfortable swimming test

• Swim in any style without assistance.

Note. Pregnant people are not allowed to undergo a medical examination. Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will also be required to: 

• Pass the written assessment and interview.

Pass the health examination conducted by the city.

Take a mandatory drug test at a city-designated testing center.

Complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting and identification (no other permits will be accepted)

All successful applicants are subject to the College of Public Safety's Code of Conduct and must meet the required standards for all credit requirements.

The city is not required to offer permanent employment upon completion of training. Applicants who have previously been dismissed from any government agency for misconduct will not be considered.

Due to the physical nature of the training, candidates with chronic illnesses, disabilities or other health conditions may be excluded from participation.

Any failure to disclose medical conditions may result in immediate withdrawal from the program.

Successful candidates will be required to:

• Wear a uniform

• Work shifts and in all weather conditions

• Be willing to work anywhere within the City of Cape Town, including outside its boundaries when required.

• Maintain good physical condition and undergo regular medical and psychological examinations.

• Complete any additional training required. Employees may not engage in personal work or conduct commercial activities without the City's prior written consent.

Employees cannot benefit from local government contracts or do business with the government. Compensation

Students receive a bonus of R34.91 per hour throughout the program.

The training will be conducted by the Public Safety Training College.

You will be notified by text or phone call to participate in the study and bring exercise equipment, food, and water to the site.

Only applicants with no criminal history, no outstanding cases, and a successful drug test will be considered for employment. Selection and evaluation do not guarantee a job offer. Solicitation (any attempt to influence hiring decisions) is strictly prohibited and will invalidate your application. If appointed, you must be listed and cannot take another job or conduct any business without the City Manager's prior approval.

Random drug, alcohol, and drug testing may be conducted during employment.
